Staples lost its first game of the season Saturday as the Wreckers fell to St. Joseph, 10-7, in the quarterfinals of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference tournament. Charlies Ross scored three goals for Staples (16-1), and goalie Austin Waiter made five saves.
Kip Orban, Brandon Waiter, Nate Greenberg and Jeff Kelly also scored for Staples, which had a 38-18 advantage in shots. Pat Corcoran and Brian Bacarella scored three goals each for St. Joseph. The Wreckers will now await play in the state tournament.
