Staples earned the top seed for the upcoming Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball playoffs with a 5-2 victory Saturday over St. Joseph of Trumbull. The Wreckers improved to 17-1 overall and 15-1 in the FCIAC with two regular season games remaining.
Brendan Bernstein collected three hits to lead Staples. Jack Hennessy added his 100th career hit and Jimmy Sikorski improved to 2-0. Chet Pajolek relieved in the sixth and David Speer came on in the seventh for his third save of the year.
Staples will celebrate Senior Day Wednesday prior to its final home game against Ridgefield. Ceremonies are expected to begin at 3:45.
