Staples boys won the 4 x 400 relay at the State Open Monday while three school records were set in girls events. The meet was held at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.
The boys team of Jonathan Heil, Sean Gallagher, John Roche and Raphael Ray ran 3:21.66. East Catholic finished second in 3:23.58 and Danbury was third in 3:24.41. As a team, Staples finished 19th with 15 points.
In the girls meet, senior Joselyn Henry set two school records while pole vaulter Lexi Schachne also established a new Staples standard. Henry took third in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, eight inches. She was seventh in the discus with a throw of 110 feet, nine inches. Schachne cleared 11 feet, 0 inches and took fifth. Staples finished 16th with 12 points.
Ray took sixth in the boys 400, running a sizzling 49.62. Heil was seventh in 50.7. The New England championships will be held Saturday at Willowbrook Park.
