Staples Baseball Suffers First Loss

Norwalk handed Staples its first loss of the season Wednesday with an 8-4 victory at City Hall Field. The Wreckers fell to 9-1 overall and 8-1 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Staples jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third. Norwalk tied it in the bottom of the inning, and then struck for three more in the fourth off Staples starter Jim Kopack (2-1). Norwalk added two more in the sixth off  Staples pitchers Bryan Terzina, Matt Reynolds and Dylan Meissner.

Kopack had two RBIs for Staples, and Ben Lipper had two stolen bases. Colin McCarthy stroked a double as the Wreckers had just five hits off Norwalk's pitchers. Spencer Jacoby pitched five innings for Norwalk (4-5 overall, 4-4 FCIAC).

Staples hosts New Canaan at 4:30 p.m. The Wreckers' loss leaves St. Joseph as the only unbeaten team in the FCIAC.
