The Staples High School baseball team defeated Darien, 4-1, on Monday behind the four-hit pitching of Rob Gau to improve to 9-0 on the season and 8-0 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
Gau (3-0) pitched a complete game. Mikey Scott had three hits to lead the Wreckers' offense. Brendan Bernstein had two hits. Scott, Tyler Jacobs and Bryan Terzian stroked doubles as the Wreckers rallied after Darien took a 1-0 lead in the third. Staples took the lead with three runs in the sixth and tacked on another run in the seventh.
Staples travels Wednesday to play Norwalk at City Field at 4 p.m. The Wreckers are home Friday to take on New Canaan.
