Stamford's Kronkowski Dedicates Win To Late Father

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford's Derek Kronkowski lost his father to illness this summer, but baseball has helped the Stamford High School student through the tragedy.

Kronkowski pitched the Stamford Pirates to the championship of the 26th annual Sharkey Laureno Memorial Tournament on Monday. He was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and afterwards dedicated the victory to his late father.

"Baseball has a whole new meaning for me now," Kronkowski said. "My dad taught me how to play the game properly. He taught me everything I knew about baseball. Now every time I go out there, everything is for him."

The Pirates defeated the Stamford Lions, 14-1, in Monday's 15U final.
