In their Facebook announcement, the Stamford Parks & Recreation Department said the C.I.T. program is designed to train students to become future camp counselors, with accepted participants scheduled to work during the summer, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Students selected for the program will be assigned to one of the department’s three large day camps. To apply, teens must be 14 by March 1, 2026, and applications will be posted online at stamfordrecreation.com starting Jan. 3, 2026.
Only 24 C.I.T. spots are available. Interviews are set to begin Feb. 1, 2026, and will be conducted at the Recreation Office on the sixth floor of the Government Center. Interviews are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays after school, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., and interviewing does not guarantee a place in the program.
The C.I.T. program is not a paid position, but applicants who turn 15 by June 1, 2026, can qualify for a $500 stipend if they successfully complete the program.
Per the department’s announcement, students selected for the program will not be permitted to take vacation days during the summer, with no exceptions.
