Stamford Revises Calendar for Schools

Just a little more than a week from today, students attending Stamford public schools will return to the classrooms. The Stamford school district has released its revised calendar for the 2010-11 academic year, and it has a few important dates parents should keep in mind for the next few months.

The all-important first day will be Thursday, Sept. 2. On Wednesday, Sept. 1, orientation sessions will be held for kindergartners as well as sixth- and ninth-graders.

The following week will be a short one, with schools closed for Labor Day — Monday, Sept. 6 —and for Rosh Hashanah — Thursday and Friday, Sept. 9 and 10.

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, students will be released early to accommodate staff development and elementary open school night. The open house at the middle schools will be Oct. 6 and at the high schools on Oct. 13. Also, there will be no school for students on Monday, Oct. 11, which is Columbus Day, and Tuesday, Oct. 12, a staff development day.

Election Day, Nov. 2, also is a staff development day, and there is no school for students. There is no school on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11. On Wednesday, Nov. 24, the day before Thanksgiving, there's early release. School will be closed Nov. 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving recess.

Report card conferences for elementary schools are in December. There is early release to accommodate the sessions on three days, Dec. 7, 8 and 9. Early release also will occur Dec. 23, and there will be no school the rest of the year, Dec. 24 through Dec. 31, for the holiday recess.
