STAMFORD, Conn.Mayor Michael Pavia has issued a 6 a.m. curfew for Stamford residents Sunday morning as Hurricane Irene approaches, a press release said. All non-essential, non-emergency vehicle, and pedestrian traffic will not be allowed, the release said.
We are closely monitoring this storm for severe weather and unsafe conditions. We urge our residents to use extreme caution and stay at home, Pavia said in the release.
On Saturday afternoon Pavia ordered residents living on the following streets to evacuate their homes: Sea Beach Drive (#76 and above, even numbers only), Saddle Rock Road, Rogers Road (#49 and above), Ralsey Road South (#1 through #37, odd numbers only), Downs Ave. (#111 through #142), Ralph Street (#9 and #15), Dolphin Cove Quay (#160 and above), Kennilworth Drive West (#73 through #95), Weed Ave. (Weed Circle, #195 through #225).
Due to expected storm surges, high tides and heavy rains, I am advising everyone that lives in these areas to relocate to higher ground, Pavia, said in the press release announcing the partial evacuation.
If residents cannot find room with family, friends or at a hotel the city will be opening up Stamford High School at 5 p.m. for those in need of shelter. People should have any necessary medications, toiletries, and bed linens if they do head to a shelter. At 9 p.m.
The shelter is pet-friendly, but animals need to have all of their vaccinations up to datewhich needs to be proved by tag or paperworkand crated. Pet food and medication is also your responsible, the press release said.
Other shelters may open if needed.
