Stamford is prepared to open emergency shelters if the city experiences a significant loss of power or extreme flooding, even as it urges residents to stay home until the current storm passes, Mayor Michael Pavia announced.
A mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet from late Tuesday into Wednesday morning could cause power outages and pull down wires and tree limbs. In addition, snow piles from previous storms could block storm drains, which could lead to flooding.
Shelters will be open on an as-needed basis if required, the mayor said. No widespread, weather-related outage problems in Stamford have been reported by Connecticut Light & Power.
For emergencies, the city instructs residents to call 911. Residents should report routine power outages to CL&P at 1-800-286-2000. The Stamford Citizen's Service Center can be reached during normal business hours at 203-977-4140.
