Stamford Neighbors Notes

STAMFORD, Conn. – After a stormy weekend, Stamford residents searched for diversions. Ten-year-old Heather Carr, who was dressed up as an “Angry Bird,” didn’t let small things like snow and lack of power in her neighborhood deter her Halloween fun. After attending her neighborhood’s annual Halloween block party, she took off with her parents, Hope Anderson and Rob Carr, trick-or-treating for “free candy and to scare my neighbors out of their minds,” she said with a giggle.

Shopping is always a popular pastime. Chandra Frazier, a Lord & Taylor sales associate who was stationed at the door greeting customers during the store’s annual Shop Smart-Do Good day, was amazed at the number of people attending Wednesday’s fundraising event. “It’s been very busy, nonstop all day,” she said.  Her co-worker Lisa Roth noted that store managers refer to the event “as our Christmas Eve.”

A full schedule of activities, entertainment, food samples and special events added to the partylike atmosphere. Mary Ann Lawlor waited in line to get a free autographed baking book, “One Sweet Cookie,” by cookbook author Tracey Zabar. She was especially thrilled that the author took the time to talk to her and inscribe the book as a gift for her granddaughter Amelia from her “Oma,” German for grandmother.

Meanwhile in another section of the store, Simona Levin, 17, was modeling shoes and boots for her mother, Dr. Asya Ginzburg, a Stamford chiropractor. The stylish pair said that they enjoyed the special discounts as well as the opportunity to support their favorite charity.

And finally, Stamford teenager Daniel Bria, son of Dom and Dawn Bria, is busy making a name for himself as a local DJ and manager of his own musical entertainment company. Building upon seven years of experience as a sound engineer and stage person for local community theaters, Scofield Magnet Middle School and Northeast Elementary School, along with his involvement in the Westhill High School Marching and Percussion Bands, this high school senior has established his own company, Daniel Bria Musical Entertainment ([email protected]) to provide music and entertainment for parties and events. Working closely with the people who hire him, Daniel enjoys mixing music specially chosen for the event and the age of the group. Annually he is invited behind the scenes on the New York City Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Dan hopes to concentrate on sound engineering/digital media in college, with a possible double major with communications or production. His top three schools are the University of Rhode Island, Hartford College and Ithaca College.
