Stamford Neighbors Notes

STAMFORD, Conn. — In the midst of the dog days of summer, an earthquake and an impending hurricane, Stamford is slowing down and enjoying the waning days of August. Serita Altshuler — one of Scofield Magnet Middle School’s "favorite teachers," according to many former students and their parents — recently enjoyed a day at Stamford's West Beach.

Serita talked about her relaxing summer vacation, which included trips to Cape Cod, Vermont and a Caribbean cruise. But most of all, this veteran teacher is eager to be returning to the classroom in less than a week to meet her newest batch of sixth-grade students.

Lights! Camera! Action! Erol Bal, of NBC Universal, is sending out an invitation to anyone over the age of 18 who would like to be part of the audience for a new television show. On Aug. 31, Steve Harvey — actor, comedian, author and radio talk show personality — will be taping two pilot episodes of his new show at the Rich Forum Theater on Atlantic Street. The program is geared to women and, according to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, is inspired by Harvey's best-selling books, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" and "Straight Talk, No Chaser." It is intended for a fall 2012 launch.

Audience members will be served a breakfast with the morning show, which lasts from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The second show begins at 1 p.m. with a lunch and finishes at 5 p.m. To get in on the fun, contact [email protected] or call 203-564-5238. Let him know whether you are interested in attending either the morning of afternoon taping, and be sure to include the number of tickets requested, along with your name, phone number and email address.
