STAMFORD, Conn. The Sound Magazine, a local music and cultural resource, is celebrating its second anniversary by holding a birthday bash on Saturday, July 30, at Seaside Tavern, 891 Cove Road, from 2 until 11:30 p.m. The event will feature reggae singer and entertainer Mystic Bowie. Other performers will include Remember September, The Woulda Coulda Shouldas, Deuce Bug and Omar Wilson. Data Panda, a Stamford business owned by Chris Scalzi and Kim Hallas, is sponsoring a dunk tank at the event to benefit PAWS Pet Adoption.
The eclectic Mystic Bowie, who in addition to performing solo, often collaborates with Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz as part of the Tom Tom Club, is getting ready for his Raggae Boat Ride on July 31. Reaching beyond the local community is Leah Shemtov of the Chabad House in Stamford, who is raising money for the Joshua & Robin Berry Children's Trust by selling her famous mega-size fresh onion challah bread Friday. The price is $18 per loaf, with 100 percent of the money going to help the children of Robin and Joshua Berry, a Houston couple who were killed in a head-on car wreck while returning from a Colorado vacation over the July 4 weekend. The parents were killed on impact. Celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian and New Jersey Housewife Caroline Manzo have been touched by the heartbreaking story. The surviving Berry children, Peter, 9 and Aaron, 8, sustained severe spinal injuries while daughter, Willa, 6, is recuperating with a broken arm and ankle.
