Stamford resident Donna Sweidan of Careerfolk is helping job seekers improve their job search skills at her three-session Social Media Boot Camp, starting Tuesday, May 17. Held at the Stamford Holiday Inn, 700 E. Main St., the session will show participants how to use social media tools to decrease the time it takes to land a new job. Topics include how to define yourself online, and successfully using LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter as part of your job search and ongoing career management. Cathy Drenckhahn, Donna Miller and Betty Thacker were co-chairs for the Academy of Information Technology and Engineerings sixth annual fundraiser, Hats Off to AITE, held recently at the Italian Center. The committee worked diligently planning the event, which provides scholarships for graduating AITE seniors. Entertainment for the evening was supplied by popular local rock band FreeRide. Post Wines & Spirits did a winetasting, and parents and friends of the school were able to bid on a variety of products, activities and services. Dr. Williams Bertier of the Haitian American Professionals Association of Connecticut (HAPAC), an organization of Haitian-American professionals who are working to empower their community, has scheduled a free Health Fair in Stamford for Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Haitian American Catholic Center, 93 Hope St. Attendees will be able to receive a number of useful free health screenings including tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, mammography and prostate disease. Dr. Iris McGuire, a New York City psychologist and Stamford resident, has opened a new office in White Plains. McGuire specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression.
