Stamford Man Pulled From Pool Remains Critical

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police reports of the death of a Stamford man pulled from the bottom of a pool Wednesday night were incorrect, a nursing supervisor at Stamford Hospital said Friday morning. Naveed Rafique was listed in critical condition Friday at the hospital, the nurse supervisor said.

Rafique, 33, was swimming with his 3-year-old daughter around 7:30 p.m. when two women at the pool heard his daughter scream, “My father is down in the pool,” and called police.

Responding officers found Rafique face down in about seven feet of water. They pulled him out and began chest compressions until emergency medical services arrived, police said. He was then taken to Stamford Hospital.

The incident took place at 50 Glenbrook Road, where the man lives, police said.
