Stamford Man Charged With Carrying Weapon

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was charged with weapon possession after police found a carabiner in his waistband that he allegedly intended to use as brass knuckles, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

Terrell Culver, 40, kept reaching down his pants where the carabiner was stashed while being questioned by police, Shawinsky said. The metal rock climbing device was wrapped with athletic tape, he said.

During the interview Culver was disoriented, slurred his words and couldn’t remember his name, Shawinsky said. The officers found a pack of cigarettes that had a chemical smell, Shawinsky said.

Police were in the area of Ann Street and Richmond Hill Avenue on a report of someone breaking into vehicles when they saw Culver pop his head up in the driver’s seat of a car, Shawinsky said. When he noticed the police, Culver got out of the car and began to walk away, he said.

Culver was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, police said. He was released on a $5,000 bond and has a court date of Aug. 22, police said.
