Stamford Issues Reminders on Irene Cleanup

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford’s Office of Operations released the following information to residents regarding Hurricane Irene cleanup.

? The city is obligated to, and will only be removing, debris that fell on city property, the release said. Debris that has fallen on private property is the responsibility of the homeowner. Residents can take debris to the City Transfer Station on Harbor View Avenue.

? Any resident who has paid a “private contractor” to repair or remove damage is responsible for the total haul-away of the material.

? Residents can receive reimbursements for their expenses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency by visiting the state’s Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Website.

? City employees began removing debris from city streets on Sept. 7 and expect to be finished by Sept. 23. If a street has already been cleared by city employees, they will not be coming back.

? Residents can also contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency directly or visit the city’s Website to obtain a claim form, the release said.
