STAMFORD, Conn. Just days after more than 100 tornadoes tore through the South and Midwest, Stamford-based AmeriCares, and Nestle Waters are sending medical aid, and other supplies to the most devastated areas of eastern Kentucky, an AmeriCares press release said.
The aid includes 32,000 bottles of water donated by Nestle, the release said. AmeriCares also will be sending hundreds of doses of the tetanus vaccine and a shipment of respirator masks to help its first responders and victims, the release said.
Immediately following the tornadoes, which leveled many homes and killed more than 50 people, the organization reached out to more than three dozen clinics and health care organizations in the devastated areas, the release said. It also began coordinating relief efforts with local first responders and members of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the release said.
