Stamford Declares Snow Emergency

Stamford drivers will have to move their cars out of the city's snow routes as yet another winter storm bears down on the city. The parking restrictions go into effect at 3 p.m., Wednesday.

“It does make snow removal much easier for our plow trucks,” said Mayor Mike Pavia. “When a snow emergency is in effect, it is necessary to ban on-street parking on the designated snow routes so that snow removal operations can better clear the roadways.”

Snow is forecast to continue into Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, there could be more than a foot of snow on the  ground, the National Weather Service says. But good news — the sun is supposed to come out Thursday.

Stamford's snow emergency routes are posted with signage. All offending vehicles will be ticketed and towed. Municipal Parking Garages at Summer Street, Bedford Street and Bell Street will remain open 24 hours for residents on emergency snow routes to park their vehicles.

Regularly scheduled garbage and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day, for the remainder of this week. For further information, visit www.cityofstamford.org.
