STAMFORD, Conn. - Stamford didn't finish the sidewalks on Oaklawn Avenue for several years, Cynthia Reeder said. Now, as an independent candidate for Stamford's board of finance, Reeder says she make the city more efficient.
Ive gotten my feet wet, now I am ready to jump in, Reeder said..
Reeder lives off of Oaklawn and was part of the group that petitioned the city to add the sidewalks. After building about 75 percent of the sidealk, the city altered its design. In an attempt to get state and federal grants, the city considered building a sidewalk with a grassy board and a bike lane, Reeder said.
The sidewalks still aren't finished, though the city is drawing up a plan to complete them, she said.
Stamford needs to make sure funds for individual projects aren't shifted to others. That has happened in the past, Reeder said.
Reeder moved to Stamford 10 years ago when her husband's job brought them to the city. She runs her own financial communication consulting firm.
The independent is competing for one of three available seats against incumbents, Mary Lou Rinaldi (D), Scott Mirkin (R), and Bob Kolenberg (R), as well as challengers John Louizos (D), David Martin (D), and Joseph Tarzia (R).
All of the other candidates have been on the finance board before except Martin, who was president of Stamford's board of representatives for eight years.
Its simply time for a fresh face and fresh perspective, Reeder said.
The Daily Stamford is attempting to profile all of the major candidates running for office this November. Election Day is Nov. 8.
