Library officials are seeking feedback from the public as they plan for the future.

Gerry McMahon, library director, said now marks the end of the first five-year strategic plan.

"Now we've got to start a new one so we continue to meet all of our customers' needs," McMahon told Daily Voice.

Library officials will review databases, programs and the building to assess each aspect. McMahon said it is too soon to say what people specifically want to see.

Residents have two options to weigh in on the library. The library will host one-hour focus groups with different demographics to discuss their thoughts.

Parents of students in kindergarten through sixth grade can come at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 and "working people" are invited at 7 p.m.

On Monday, Nov. 2, parents of preschoolers can drop by at 4 p.m. and teenagers at 7 p.m.

Residents can also fill out an online survey. The survey asks the basics such as age, gender and hometown. It also includes questions like when people visit the library and its website, and what services and programs they find important.

Jim Hecht, a consultant helping Franklin Lakes with the survey, said it's critical to have resident input.

"The library doesn't want to make decisions in a vacuum," Hecht said, "and they certainly want to make decisions that are important to the community."
