“When I entered office in January of 2012, I had planned to serve only one term and then retire from public office on Jan. 1, 2016,” the supervisor said in his announcement. “However since that time, I have been asked by many residents to reconsider that decision and to seek another term as supervisor. Further, I have come to realize that although we have made much progress in the last three years, there is still much left to be done.”
In his announcement, Hay also touted the increase in the town's fund-balance reserves.
“Through prudent fiscal management and restructuring of various Town departments, I am now able to report that the Town is in much better fiscal shape and is, in fact, improving beyond what many people believed possible.”
A former Putnam County legislator for 19 years and a Vietnam War combat veteran, Hay also noted his long hours on the job, which have involved coming in at 6 a.m. to leaving at 9 p.m.
The election is in November.
