Juniper Granola, LLC., based in Rochester, New York, is recalling Chocolate Cherry and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Junebars because the products may contain undeclared milk and soy, according to a notice posted by the US Food and Drug Administration.

The company announcement was dated Wednesday, Feb. 11, and the FDA published the alert on Thursday, Feb. 12.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled products, the company said.

The bars were distributed in New York State in January through grocery retailers and direct website orders.

Impacted products can be identified by looking on the back of the bar pouch near the bottom. The recalled Chocolate Cherry and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Junebars have batch labels L1300 or L1301, including:

  • L1300
  • L1300A
  • L1300B
  • L1301A

The company said it became aware of the issue after one customer reported an allergic reaction to milk.

An investigation found the problem was caused by an oversight in the company’s sourcing process, which led to a box of non-vegan chocolate chips containing milk and soy being included in production. Junebars are typically made with dairy-free and soy-free chips.

"This recall was initiated immediately after the allergen’s presence was discovered," the company said.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Junebars are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
