FAIRFIELD, Conn. Sacred Heart University and Notre Dame High School have been neighbors for decades. But the two Fairfield Catholic schools announced this week that the two institutions will become more intertwined.
The university will help Notre Dame improve its own infrastructure, and allow the high schools students to use more of Sacred Hearts resources.
As two Catholic institutions that share a common mission and vision, its great to be able to work more collaboratively and to further develop a mutually supportive relationship, Sacred Heart President John J. Petillo said in a press release.
As part of the deal, Sacred Heart bought two acres of Notre Dames land along Park Avenue. The university plans to use the extra space for new academic buildings. Their full plans will go before Fairfields planning and zoning commission in 2012.
Sacred Heart will also help to update Notre Dames athletic fields, and work to install WiFi in the high schools classrooms. Notre Dame students will also get access to Sacred Hearts Ryan Matura Library, and a 50 percent tuition discount to the university if they are accepted to Sacred heart after graduation.
This infusion of academic resources and capital investment will have an immediate and huge impact on our campus, said Rev. Bill Sangiovanni, president of Notre Dame High School. This represents a new era for NDHS - students, faculty and alumni will all benefit now and far into the 21st century.
