The 376 members of the Stamford High School Class of 2010 bid farewell to the great school on the hill on Thursday afternoon at Boyle Stadium. Michael Intrieri, the man who coined that phrase also said his goodbyes to the school he has taught at for 34 years.
I believe you are ready for the next chapter in your life, said Intrieri, director of student activities, who is retiring after 40 years in the school system. Invoking President Theodore Roosevelt, he urged the students to have faith in themselves. Believe you can and youre halfway there,' he quoted the president as saying.
Although threatening weather had passed through the city a couple hours before the ceremony began, the only problems were heat, humidity and a gusty wind that sent mortarboards flying through the air as the graduates filed in to strains of Pomp and Circumstance.
With the scoreboard used for football games lit up to remind everyone this was the class of 2010, Mayor Michael Pavia told the students they were being counted on. The older generation is relying on you to make this a better place, he said.
As if to reassure the mayor, Isaiah BienAimee, co-president of the senior class, said, Its time for us to go out and conquer the world.
