WILTON, Conn. Deer hunting season is over, and deer can once again roam free without fear. But how do Wilton residents feel about the deer population in town?
Do we still have a functioning Deer Committee, and what is the status of deer in town? Wilton resident Barbara Quincy asked the assembled town employees at Speak Up Wilton on Saturday, March 3.
Pat Sesto, director of Wiltons Environmental Affairs, answered the question with an enthusiastic yes.
This year we harvested at least 110 deer, through the committees efforts, Sesto said. But that isnt enough, she said. Finding more effective ways to cut down on the number of deer in town is one of the committees main goals this year.
Were seriously focusing on what the other tools available might be, Sesto said. She said that this year it might be orchestrating a cull rather than relying on recreational hunters.
