Want to give Fairfields leaders a piece of your mind? Worried that your taxes may be too high, or that the town is not spending enough on its schools? Youll get your chance this Saturday in Southport. The five members of the Representative Town Meeting from that neighborhood -- David Becker, Bruce Challinor, Michael Herley, Carolyn Richmond and Eric Sundman -- are holding a Constituents Concerns Day.
As your local Town Representatives, we believe it is very important to engage and listen to our constituents in District One as we begin to evaluate the Towns budget for 2011-2012, said Becker.
The towns spending plan is still under discussion by the Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen and will not reach the RTM for final approval until May. But the towns finances will still be the main focus of the meeting. Voters will also get a chance to talk about traffic problems, the Southport Train Station, environmental issues, sidewalks and other topics.
District 1 covers the Southport section of Fairfield. (To find out your district, use this street-by-street guide.) However, all Fairfielders are welcome to come to the meeting Saturday and voice their opinions.
Our town is at an inflection point in its history; accordingly, it is essential that local officials actively engage with their constituents to better understand where town residents want us to focus town spending as we move forward as one community, said Sundman.
The five representatives will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Ave., from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26. For more information on the event, contact Michael Herley at [email protected].
