PEEKSKILL -- A sex offender was arrested Friday for failing to notify city police of his change of address. Anthony Kalicharin, 32, of Peekskill, was arrested and charged with failing to report his new address, a felony.
Kalicharin is a level three sex offender, considered the most likely to commit further offenses, according to police. Kalicharin improperly reported his address as being on Crompond Road when he was in fact a resident of 653 Washington Street, according to Peekskill Police spokesman Lt. Eric Johansen.
"The Department of Criminal Justice Service called us and we began an investigation," Johansen said. "They had been contacted by someone on Crompound that saw that their address was being used by a sex offender."
Kalicharin told police he was using the Crompound address because he anticipated having to leave his current residence, Johnasen said.
According to state law sex offenders have to check in with police every 90 days, which Johansen said Kalicharin had been doing since being released fom jail in November of 2010. Since he is no longer on parole he is not restricted in where he can live.
Kalicharin was charged following an investigation and was held for arraignment in city court without bail.
There are 23 registered sex offenders currently living in the city, according to Peekskill Police: twelve level 1 offenders, five level 2 offenders and six level 3 offenders.
