Now, he's heading to prison.
The 20-year-old Salisbury man was sentenced in Wicomico County to 50 years in prison, with half of the term to actively serve, after admitting earlier this year to a strange conflict involving his girlfriend, the father of his girlfriend's child, and later his child's mother.
All within an hour.
On the evening of July 20, 2025, Ames and his girlfriend got into a conflict with the father of her child, prosecutors said.
Ames and his girlfriend then drove to a home on Mohawk Avenue, where he fired eight shots at the residence, according to the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office.
Nobody was hit, though the home was damaged, prosecutors said, and the pair fled.
But Ames wasn't done.
About an hour later, during what prosecutors described as a related conflict, his girlfriend drove him to the East Lincoln Street home of his child's mother.
There, a verbal altercation in the street quickly escalated when Ames pulled out a gun for the second time that night and opened fire, according to prosecutors.
His intended targets weren't hit.
Instead, a woman standing nearby was struck by a bullet and taken to TidalHealth for treatment.
Ames fled again, this time getting help from several family members who hid evidence of his crimes and drove him to Baltimore, prosecutors said.
From there, Ames made his way to Georgia, where he was eventually tracked down by law enforcement and extradited back to Maryland.
Ames pleaded guilty in May to:
- Attempted first-degree murder;
- First-degree assault;
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.
When he is released, the judge also ordered that Ames serve three years of supervised probation.
"Gun violence does not end after the trigger is pulled," Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie Dykes said. "It destroys the lives of victims and their families and leaves a trail of community destruction in its wake."
