SOMERS, N.Y. - The heatwave that toasted the midwest is here and wreaking havoc as threatened.
According to Accuweather.com the temperature was in the high 80s by 9 a.m. on Friday, with a high of 98 degrees forecast for late afternoon. The nighttime will bring us into the 70 degree range, with another high of 95 at about 4 p.m. on Saturday.
As for Sunday, we can expect a high of 89, then into the comfortable low 80s by Monday.
The sun will be a constant daytime companion throughout the weekend, but the humidity will be mid-range. Those twin devils, dust and dander, will be extremely offensive to allergy sufferers. Grass and mold pollen levels will be on the high side. Those seeking outdoor exercise will not enjoy good conditions until Sunday.
The Town of Somers invites anyone in need of cooling to the Heritage Hills Activity Center at 8 Heritage Hills Drive. The air-conditioned center is currently open and will remain open until further notice.
In a Press Release, Supervisor Murphy said, In this extreme weather we must all drink plenty of fluids, check on our neighbors and do the best we can to stay cool. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call my office at (914) 277-3637."
