WILTON, Conn. -- Now that school is about to begin, it is important to remind everyone of some traffic safety concerns.Buses, students and parents will be transporting children to and from school daily during the school week. The additional vehicles on the roads will add to the morning and afternoon commutes. Students will also be attending after-school activities throughout town as many return to their routines during the school year.It is very important to recognize that buses will be making frequent stops during morning pick-ups and afternoon drop-offs. It is essential to be alert and stop on all roads for any bus that has stopped and displayed the red lights and stop bar. As a reminder, all drivers must come to a complete stop for buses that have their warning signals displayed. This includes Route 7, which is a four-lane roadway. Vehicles traveling in both directions, north and south, must come to a complete stop on both sides of Route 7.Many children are transported on school buses and they are our most precious commodities. Please drive carefully.Wilton Police Officers will strictly enforce the law.I also remind motorists that you must yield to an ambulance, fire vehicle or police vehicle when it is responding to an emergency call. When an emergency vehicle has its lights and siren activated, motorists must pull to the right and come to a complete stop until the vehicle has passed. This also includes those traveling in the opposite direction. Our ambulance, fire and police vehicles activate the lights and sirens only when needed and out of necessity. Please do not delay their response time by ignoring them.The goal of the Wilton Police Department is to provide as safe a community as we can to all who reside or come to Wilton. Please obey all traffic laws.
