At 8:27 a.m., officers responded to a crash at South Summit Avenue and West Pleasantview Avenue after a school bus struck the 31-year-old while they were crossing the street within a marked crosswalk, Jeff Angermeyer, chief of detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, said.
Sources tell Daily Voice that the woman was pinned under the bus, requiring emergency responders to use a special inflatable jack to lift the bus off her. The bus was carrying young children, who may have had special needs, witnesses tell Daily Voice. The bus driver was visibly upset.
The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, Angermeyer said.
The involved driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, and there is no indication that this accident involves any criminality, Angermeyer said. The crash remains under investigation, Angermeyer said.
