“We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media. As a family we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk,” the 54-year-old NBC "Today" co-host said alongside her brother and sister in a video shared to Instagram. “However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her.”
Authorities said 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, AZ home Saturday night, Jan. 31, where signs of forced entry were discovered. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office later escalated the case from a missing person investigation to a criminal abduction, with the FBI now assisting. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a ransom note was received late Monday night, Feb. 2, and the FBI has been analyzing it. CBS News reported Tuesday evening, Feb. 3 that it "asks for a large sum of money," and authorities are taking it seriously enough that they have shown it to the Guthrie family.
Savannah, her sister Annie, and brother Camron choked back tears in describing their mother and emphasizing her fragile health and medical needs.
The family said Nancy’s absence has left a painful void.
"She lives in constant pain,” Guthrie said. “She is without any medicine, she needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.”
The siblings' statement ended with a direct message to their mom.
“Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God’s precious daughter, Nancy. Everyone is looking for you mommy, everywhere. We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again. We love you mom.”
