RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye YMCA recently received a $20,000 grant from the United Way of Westchester and Putnam to help fund its Healthier Communities Initiatives.
"The whole effort is really built around healthy living," said Rye YMCA Executive Director Gregg Howells.
The Rye Y provides a number of programs that could benefit from the grant. Howells said preventative health is a focus and the money could go to fund its LIVESTRONG and Diabetes Prevention programs and possibly fund a community or school garden to promote healthy eating.
"It's a pretty good amount of money," said Howells. "We intend to put it toward improving health and awareness in the community."
