STAMFORD, Conn. -- Rye resident James Stevens' body was discovered hanging from a tree inside Mianus River Park Sunday night in what Stamford police are treating as a suicide.
Greenwich police had initially been contacted by Stevens' wife as to the whereabouts of her husband when he did not return home from his typical day of mountain biking in the park.
A search team located his body shortly after 10:30 p.m. on the Stamford side of the park. Stamford police are proceeding with the investigation as a suicide, though an autopsy has yet to be conducted.Stamford police Lt. Jim Matheny said he could not release any additional information on Stevens' case out of respect for the family.
It was reported in the Stamford Advocate that Stamford police Capt. Richard Conklin said he believed Stevens may have committed suicide as a result of losing his job.
