Update: Propane Facility Blaze Prompts Evacuations In Wallkill, Route 17 Reopens

UPDATE: A busy stretch of Route 17 has reopened after a fire at a propane facility forced a temporary closure in Orange County, authorities announced.

The fire broke out at Blue Flame Propane at 307 Bloomingburg Road in Middletown, prompting the closure at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, New York State Police announced.

The incident caused Route 17 to close in both directions between Exit 116 and Exit 118. The roadway has reopened as of 2:30 p.m. 

Six people were evacuated from the commercial property and surrounding area where the fire started, News12 Hudson Valley reported. 

According to the outlet, the fire, which happened near two 1,000-gallon propane tanks, has since been brought under control. 

Authorities said more updates will be released as information becomes available.
