Officers from the Mount Vernon District Station received a License Plate Reader alert tied to a suspect wanted on multiple felony warrants at 1:39 p.m. in Hybla Valley, according to Fairfax County PD.

Police located the vehicle in the 8100 block of Richmond Highway and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting a pursuit. The Real Time Crime Center, Fairfax 1 helicopter, and Virginia State Police assisted as the chase continued into Alexandria.

Officers used a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver to stop the vehicle on northbound I-495. As officers gave commands, the driver, identified as Rodney Johnson, 46, of Arlington, sprayed officers with bear spray, police said.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. Two juveniles inside the vehicle were exposed to the bear spray and taken to a hospital as a precaution, police said.

Multiple officers also suffered minor injuries from the spray and were treated at the scene.

Johnson was later taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was served outstanding warrants including robbery, six counts of grand larceny, and multiple probation violations. He also faces new charges including felony speed to elude, five counts of assault on law enforcement by caustic substance, two counts of felony child endangerment, and obstruction of justice with force. Johnson was held without bond, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Vernon District Station at 703-360-8400 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS, according to authorities.
