Robert the Guitar Guy Performs at Armonk Library

ARMONK, N.Y. — Robert Markowitz, a South Salem resident, was once a public school teacher in the South Bronx and a California lawyer. Today he is Robert the Guitar Guy, who performs for children at public libraries, preschools, camps and municipal events.

On Friday, he performed at the North Castle Public Library for a group of children ages 9 months to 2 years and their mothers, grandmothers and guardians.

He sat on the floor as he performed, across from his audience, and sang standard and original songs as he led the children in sing-a-long games with shakers, drums and bells.

“I incorporate music, rhythm, humor, storytelling and props, which makes my performances fun for the kids,” he said.

Jill Bohrer of West Harrison brought her daughter, Alice, who is almost 2; she said Robert the Guitar Guy’s performance “was highly interactive, which kids love. It really engages the kids.”

Markowitz has recorded three CDs, including "Don’t Sneeze Choo-Choo Train," which won the iParenting Media Award.

He said he has performed at 20 libraries this month and also performs at private birthday parties and play groups.

He appears at the North Castle Library on the second and fourth Fridays of each month and plans to play weekly beginning this summer.
