DARIEN, Conn. Robert McKenna, a former longtime Darien resident, died Friday, Sept. 7 at his home in Murrells Inlet, S.C. He was 82.
Born Aug. 5, 1930, in Bridgeport, he was the son of James J. McKenna Sr. and Agnes McCormick McKenna. A retired painter, McKenna opened Pine Grove Liquors in New Canaan. He was a parishioner of St. John Church in Darien before moving to Murrells Inlet, where he enjoyed spending time playing golf.
McKenna is survived by a sister, Mary Lou McKenna, of Glastonbury, Conn.; two stepsons, Wade (Nancy) Koba, of Ossining, N.Y., and Philip (Nancy) Koba, of Norwalk; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Aurelia McKenna; and a brother, James McKenna Jr.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien. A prayer service will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, Conn.
