Prince William County Police announced four additional arrests on Tuesday, Aug. 11, while revealing that the teen and two acquaintances allegedly arranged to confront and rob Damon Jamon Atwater, 25, before shots rang out in the 16700 block of Blackjack Oak Lane in Woodbridge on July 5.
The alleged robbery never happened. Instead, the 16-year-old wound up dead.
Investigators say the teen from Triangle went to the area with Janaiya Lolita Talley, 18, of Arlington, and a 17-year-old Woodbridge girl as part of the alleged plan to confront and rob Atwater.
During the encounter, shots were fired, fatally striking the teen.
Police have not said who fired the fatal shot.
Now, the two girls who allegedly helped arrange the robbery are charged with murder in the death of their 16-year-old acquaintance.
Talley and the 17-year-old have each been charged with felony murder and attempted robbery.
Talley was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 6, and is being held without bond. The 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday and is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
The latest arrests also answered another question that had lingered since the night of the shooting.

Police identified Darrian King Rutherford, 18, of Woodbridge, as the man who allegedly left the scene in a vehicle officers later attempted to stop.
Officers spotted the vehicle near Cardinal Drive and Emil Court, but the driver refused to stop, and a pursuit followed.
It didn't end with an arrest.
Police say Rutherford eventually stopped near Powell's Creek Boulevard and Blue Pool Lane, ditched the vehicle and disappeared on foot.
He got away that night.
Rutherford was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 6, and charged with felony eluding. He was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
There was still another player in the case, according to investigators.
Before the first officers even arrived at Blackjack Oak Lane, police say Keshaun Maurice Hodge-Richards, 21, of Woodbridge, went to the shooting scene and tampered with evidence.
He then left the area.
Hodge-Richards was arrested Monday, Aug. 10, and charged with concealing or compounding offenses. He is being held without bond.
Atwater, meanwhile, had already been arrested after spending 25 days at the center of the investigation.
Prince William County detectives and the US Marshals Service tracked him to his Woodbridge home on July 30.
He was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and is being held without bond.
More than a month after the 16-year-old was killed, police say all parties involved in the incident have now been identified and arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing.
