Robbery Attempt Reported at Fairfield Yogurt Shop

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Police are searching for a man who tried to rob the Pinkberry frozen yogurt shop on the Post Road Sunday morning. The intruder held an employee at the store, claiming to have a knife, before a second employee interrupted the attempt, police say.

The first employee told police she had entered the back office of the shop just after 10 a.m. Sunday. She heard a knock on the door and when she answered, the man charged in, covered her mouth and demanded money. He told the employee he had a knife, but neither she nor the witness saw one. Police do not think he took anything from the store.

A second employee arrived shortly after the suspect entered. When she did, the man shoved her out of the way and ran. A caller at the Fairfield train station said she saw a man run across the parking lot, get into an older, dark-colored Nissan and speed away. The witness also reported hearing a gunshot, but neither Pinkberry employee said they heard gunfire, according to police.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, about 5-foot-seven, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a ski mask covering the lower portion of his face, dark pants and shoes and white rubber gloves. Anyone with information on the incident should call Fairfield Police at 203-254-4800.
