Westporters should get ready to experience additional delays in their daily commute. Starting Monday, milling and repaving work on Roseville Road, North Avenue and portions of Cross Highway and Long Lots Road will begin as part of work funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or ARRA.
During the repaving, which will take about five weeks, alternating one-way traffic will run on those roads to accommodate the milling-and-paving equipment and dump trucks, the Westport Department of Public Works said in a statement.
This construction is the second-round of work in the $1.2 million project funded by the ARRA. About $500,000 worth of repaving work on portions of the same roadways was done earlier this year during phase one.
To help lessen traffic woes, the Department of Public Works requests that residents and commuters use alternative routes, if possible. Parents are encouraged to put their children on school buses as a way to reduce drop-off traffic to and from schools.
If you must drop children at school, Public Works advises you to be prepared to follow the instructions of traffic officers at critical intersections and to use alternate entrances to schools when available.
During the construction, no parking will be allowed on Wakeman Town Road. A map of the affected areas, which will be updated daily, is available online.
