Construction is slated to begin on the new Tappan Zee Bridge in 2013, with the new bridge finished and the old bridge demolished by 2018.

• Dobbs Ferry schools announced plans for "unannounced emergency lock-down drills" in all three of its schools in April. The drills would help make the district's emergency management plan, which includes local emergency responders, more effective.

• Hastings film editor Paul Frost's work was featured when PBS premiered "The House I Live In" on "Independent Lens" on April 8.

• Theresa A. Fahey (nee Miano) of Yonkers died on Saturday, April 6. She was 69. Fahey worked as a secretary for the Graham-Wydham School in Hastings for more than 20 years.

• A contract between the New York State Thruway Authority and Tappan Zee Contractors to build the new Tappan Zee Bridge beginning in 2013 set standards for strict timetables, payment schedules and penalties.
