NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Greenwich meets New Canaan Monday at 6 p.m. at New Canaan's Mellick Field in the losers' bracket final of the Cal Ripken 10-year-old District 1 tournament. In the 12-year-old tournament, Norwalk has reached the winners' bracket final and will play for the championship on Wednesday night.
In the 10-year-old tournament, Greenwich nipped Norwalk, 9-8, on Sunday to reach the losers' bracket final. New Canaan dropped into the losers' bracket with a 4-3 loss to Stratford. Monday's winner of the Greenwich-New Canaan game meets Stratford on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Mellick.
In the 12-year-old tournament, Norwalk topped Greenwich, 5-3, on Sunday to reach the winners' bracket final. Norwalk plays for the title on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Saxe Middle School. It will meet the winner of the game Tuesday between Greenwich and Stratford. That game is scheduled for Saxe at 5:30 p.m.
Norwalk needs one victory to secure the district title. The winner advances to the state tournament in July. Last year, Norwalk's 12-year-old team played in the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md.
