YONKERS, N.Y. Yonkers Police allowed residents back into their apartments Thursday morning after removing several assault weapons that were found in a house at 22 Adler St. The residents had been evacuated Wednesday after police went to check on reports of a suspicious package.
NBC News reports that a landlord discovered the weapons in a storage room, along with "thousands of rounds of ammunition in boxes in a storage area," after he went to check on the space because rent had not been paid for the storage. Police later told residents to evacuate the multi-family home while they investigated whether the weapons and materials were potentially explosive, according to the report.
The FBI, Westchester County Hazardous Devices Unit and the Yonkers Fire Department were also on scene. They were allowed to return to their homes by Thursday morning.
