More sunshine (or at least daylight) officially begins Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m. when clocks are turned forward one hour in the long held tradition signaling the approach of spring.

Aside from Hawaii, Arizona, and all island U.S. territories, most of the country "springs forward" as an energy-saving measure that dates back to 1966 when the Uniform Time Act was implemented.
