Rehab Program Accepts All

Anthony Holmes knows something about overcoming his problems. A recovering drug addict and thief, he went into rehabilitation to turn his life around.

Holmes was outside the Westport Starbucks today raising money for Teen Challenge New England. “We have a no turn down policy. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any money, or if you are homeless. We don’t turn anyone away,” said Holmes, who lives in New Haven.

He said his own life was on a path of self destruction. Alcohol, marijuana and Ecstasy were only a few of the drugs he rattled off as having been personal addictions. And then there was the crime. Theft and robbery were in his past, and while he could admit that, it was with the voice of a confession, not pride.

Teen Challenge New England doesn’t take government money according to Holmes. It is entirely donation driven. He said the Westport residents had been very generous. Holmes said anyone interested in more information about the centers or making a donation can visit the website at www.tcnewengland.org. They are headquarted in Brockton, Mass., but operate a centers in New Haven for men and women.
