Kate Regan, the New Canaan woman charged with hitting and killing an elderly Oenoke Ridge Road man in August, will return to Norwalk Superior Court in about two months.
In pretrial action Tuesday, Regan appeared before Judge Bruce Hudock briefly before it was agreed that her case would continue March 1. Regan's attorney, John Gulash Jr., said the continuance was to allow for the review of photographs and materials in the case. The delay will also allow Regan time to give birth. She is pregnant with her and husband Michael Regan's second child.
Regan, 32, is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility resulting in physical injury or death. New Canaan police said Regan's sport-utility vehicle hit 82-year-old Krishna S. Jayaraman on the afternoon of Aug. 18 as Jayaraman was at his mailbox outside his home on Oenoke Ridge. Jayaraman died at Norwalk Hospital after suffering "multiple traumatic blunt injuries."
Regan was arrested Nov. 3 after a nearly three-month investigation by town police and the State Police Major Crime Unit. Regan has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Gulash said after the hearing that Regan is "taking it one step at a time" and has the support of her close extended family.
