The stop happened around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20, when troopers pulled over a 2025 Chevrolet traveling northbound near mile marker 43 in East Fishkill for traffic violations, New York State Police said on Tuesday, April 21.

Troopers identified the driver as 46-year-old Rasheed K. Wheeless of Poughkeepsie, the only one inside of the vehicle.

During the investigation, a K-9 sniffed the outside of the car and alerted to the presence of narcotics, authorities said. A subsequent search uncovered around 1,169.4 grams —more than 2.5 pounds — of cocaine, according to State Police.

Wheeless was taken into custody and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, as well as third-degree criminal possession with intent to sell and obstructing governmental administration, along with vehicle and traffic violations.

He was arraigned in East Fishkill Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
