After the New Canaan High School boys soccer team survived Wednesday's instant-classic semifinal game against Watertown, it had to wait a day to find out who it opponent would be in the Class L final. The Rams will draw a familiar team when they take on top-ranked Bunnell High of Stratford on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.
The Rams shut out Bunnell, 2-0, in the 2009 semifinals. But Bunnell is much improved since last season, jumping from the 14-seed to the top ranking in the Class L tournament this year. The Bulldogs have also had a wild ride to the finals, surviving penalty kick periods in their past two games. Bunnell knocked off Brookfield in the quarterfinal, the team that beat New Canaan in the 2009 finals.
The New Canaan boys last won the state soccer title in 2006.
